Abia LG Poll Results: ZLP Wins 15 Councils, YPP Secures 2

The Zenith Labour Party (ZLP) won 15 out of 17 Local Government Areas in Abia State’s recent local government elections, with the Young Peoples Party (YPP) securing the remaining two. Prof. George Chima, Chairman of the Abia State Independent Electoral Commission, shared the results at the commission’s headquarters in Umuahia.

Reflecting on the commission’s work since its inauguration on September 5, Chima expressed pride in the achievement, noting the record participation of over 12 political parties. He described the election as “free, fair, and credible,” highlighting that the process, typically six to twelve months, was completed in just two.

Chima also emphasized the importance of peace, congratulating all participants and thanking security agencies for their support. He urged all to maintain harmony in Abia, stating, “In any election, there are winners and losers, but the most important thing is that Abia remains peaceful.”
