Residents of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) have been informed by the Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) of scheduled blackouts in some areas this weekend due to maintenance work at two transmission substations.
According to a statement issued on Saturday by Ndidi Mbah, TCN’s General Manager for Public Affairs, the maintenance will take place between Saturday and Sunday. The work involves servicing power transformers and associated equipment at two key substations.
On Saturday, December 28, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m., maintenance will be conducted on a 60MVA power transformer at the Gwagwalada 330/132/33kV Transmission Substation. During this period, the Abuja Electricity Distribution Company (Abuja DisCo) will be unable to supply electricity to customers in Gwagwalada and surrounding areas for approximately four hours.
On Sunday, December 29, from 9 a.m. to 10 p.m., maintenance work will take place at the Kukwaba 132/33kV Transmission Substation, affecting power supply to areas including Wuye, EFCC, Federal Medical Centre, Coca-Cola, Idu Railway Station, Citec, and Life Camp.
TCN has expressed regret over the inconvenience these outages may cause, particularly during the festive season, but emphasized that the maintenance is crucial for ensuring the reliable performance of power equipment.
Earlier this month, a planned maintenance for the Gwagwalada substation had been postponed due to complaints from residents about power supply issues.
TCN assures that the maintenance will help maintain optimal operation of the power network in the region.
