Governor Umo Eno of Akwa Ibom State has named his daughter, Mrs. Helen Eno Obareki, as the acting First Lady following the passing of his wife, Pastor Patience Umo Eno.
The announcement came during a condolence visit on Friday by Nigeria’s First Lady, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, accompanied by a delegation of dignitaries including Hajia Nana Shettima, the wife of the Vice President, and wives of state governors and National Assembly officials.
Senator Tinubu commended Governor Eno’s decision, likening it to similar practices in the United States. She acknowledged the move as a thoughtful way to continue the legacy of the late Patience Eno, stating, “Though her life was short, Patience completed her race. May God comfort you, your family, and your children.”
Governor Eno, reflecting on the deep bond he shared with his late wife, described her as his “greatest supporter and toughest critic.” He introduced his daughter, Helen, as the new acting First Lady, saying, “It’s a challenging responsibility, but to keep the office of the First Lady functioning and continue my late wife’s work, I present our daughter, Helen, to take on this role.”
