Alisha Lehmann Speaks Out on Gender Pay Inequality in Football
Swiss footballer Alisha Lehmann, who plays for Aston Villa’s women’s team, has raised concerns about gender pay inequality in sports. In a recent statement, Lehmann pointed out that despite doing the same job as her partner, Douglas Luiz, who also plays for Aston Villa, she earns significantly less.
“I do the same job as Douglas, play for the same club, but I earn 100 times less money. It’s not fair. It’s something that affects me because I’m a woman,” she stated.
Lehmann’s comments highlight the persistent issue of pay disparity between male and female athletes, particularly in football, where male players often receive substantially higher wages compared to their female counterparts.
The debate over equal pay in sports has gained momentum in recent years, with many athletes and advocates pushing for reforms to bridge the wage gap and ensure that female athletes receive fair compensation for their contributions.
