Benue State Governor, Hyacinth Alia, has officially signed the 2025 budget of N550 billion into law, just hours after its passage by the State House of Assembly.
The budget, titled “Human Capital Development, Food Security, and the Digital Economy,” is valued at N550,112,988,930.45.
Earlier on Monday, December 30, 2024, the Benue State House of Assembly approved the 2025 appropriation bill during a plenary session led by Speaker Hon. Hyacinth Aondona Dajoh.
The signing ceremony, held at the Benue State Government House in Makurdi, coincided with the launch of the state’s 10-year Development Plan, State Nutrition Policy, and State Social Protection Policy. Governor Alia hailed the event as a significant step toward achieving long-term growth and prosperity.
“This marks the start of a new chapter for Benue. The 2025 budget and these strategic policies set the foundation for a future where every citizen can thrive and contribute to our state’s development,” Alia said.
He emphasized that the budget will drive improvements in education, healthcare, and economic growth, equipping citizens with essential skills and resources to navigate an evolving world.
Focus on Digital Economy
Governor Alia highlighted digital transformation as a cornerstone of the budget, pledging investments in internet access, innovation hubs, and digital infrastructure to enhance literacy, foster entrepreneurship, and create job opportunities.
“The digital economy is the future, and we are positioning Benue to lead in this space by supporting businesses and ensuring access to digital tools for our people,” he noted.
Social Protection Policy
Alia described the launch of the Social Protection Policy as a commitment to supporting vulnerable citizens through financial aid, healthcare, education, and job training.
“This policy reflects our dedication to safeguarding the welfare of every citizen, ensuring that no one is left behind,” he added.
The governor expressed gratitude to the Benue State House of Assembly for approving the budget and acknowledged the United Nations International Children’s Emergency Fund (UNICEF) for their support in shaping key policies.
Governor Alia concluded by reaffirming his administration’s pledge to foster sustainable growth and prosperity for Benue State.
