Benue Governor Suspends Attorney General Over EFCC Legality Case
Benue State Governor, Hyacinth Alia, has suspended the State Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice and Public Order, Fidelis Mynin, on Wednesday. The suspension came after Mynin joined a legal challenge questioning the constitutionality of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) without notifying the governor.
This development follows a Supreme Court case where 19 states challenged the legality of the EFCC. On Tuesday, the court reserved its judgment. Notably, three states—Anambra, Adamawa, and Ebonyi—have since withdrawn from the suit. Their respective Attorneys General filed applications for withdrawal before the court.
Governor Alia, reportedly surprised by Benue’s involvement in the case, ordered Mynin’s suspension. The governor’s spokesperson, Kula Tersoo, confirmed the suspension, stating, “It’s true, His Excellency today suspended the State Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice and Public Order for joining the suit challenging the legality of EFCC without informing the governor.”
