Bobrisky Addresses Jail Sentence Allegations, Says He’s Ready for Investigation
Popular Nigerian social media influencer, Idris Okuneye, known widely as Bobrisky, has spoken out about recent claims that he served a six-month jail term. These allegations stemmed from a viral audio clip, in which Martins Otse, also known as VeryDarkMan, alleged that Bobrisky had been sentenced for mishandling naira notes. It was further claimed that his godfather and the Controller General of the Nigerian Correctional Service facilitated his sentence in a private residence.
According to a report by the Nigerian Tribune, Bobrisky addressed the situation on Facebook, asserting that he is prepared for any investigation, including potential probes by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC). However, he stressed that such inquiries must be fair and free from intimidation.
In his post, Bobrisky acknowledged that at first, he had been worried by rumors suggesting that the EFCC might arrest him again. However, he said he is now ready to face any legal challenges without fear. He requested that people stop warning or threatening him about the situation.
Bobrisky’s post stated: “To everyone calling and warning me about the dangers I supposedly face, stop it. I don’t want any more threats. Yes, I was initially frightened by claims that the EFCC would detain and sentence me again, but I’m no longer afraid.”
He expressed confidence that he would be exonerated and urged that anyone trying to frame him would be exposed. Bobrisky emphasized the need for an impartial and transparent investigation, conducted independently and without any intimidation, ensuring that the entire process is open to public scrutiny.
In response to the audio recording at the center of the controversy, Bobrisky criticized its use, suggesting it could have been altered or manipulated. He dismissed attempts to undermine him based on his social media persona, declaring that anyone responsible for creating or spreading the audio should be held accountable.
“No one can bury me because of my social media presence,” he asserted. “Anyone can modify or fabricate an audio recording. Whoever shared it should take responsibility. I had no involvement in making or distributing that audio, and nothing will change that. If you have a case against me, we’ll settle it in court.”
