Boko Haram and Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP) militants launched a deadly attack on a Nigerian Army base in Gubio Local Government Area, Borno State, resulting in the deaths of five soldiers, ten injuries, and four personnel reported missing.

The Director of Defence Media Operations, Major General Edward Buba, confirmed the attack and stated that while the soldiers suffered casualties, several terrorists were neutralized in the confrontation.

In addition to the loss of life, the insurgents destroyed military equipment, including a gun truck, three troop-carrying vehicles (TCVs), and an excavator. The military dispatched reinforcements supported by air components to pursue the attackers along their withdrawal route.

General Buba emphasized that the incident would not deter Nigeria’s armed forces from their commitment to eradicating terrorism and insecurity.

Borno State Governor Babagana Zulum extended condolences to the military and the families of the fallen soldiers, calling the attack a grim reminder of Boko Haram’s brutality. In a statement delivered through the Commissioner for Information and Internal Security, Usman Tar, Zulum expressed solidarity with the armed forces and prayed for the victims’ families to find strength.
