ormer Oyo State governor and Otun Olubadan of Ibadanland, Oba Rashidi Ladoja, has demanded a public apology from former Osun State governor, Chief Bisi Akande, over claims linking him to the unresolved murder of ex-Attorney General of the Federation, Chief Bola Ige.
Speaking to journalists at his Ibadan residence on Monday, Ladoja insisted that Akande must retract his statement or face legal action.
“All options will be taken, including legal action against Akande except he withdraws his statement and tenders a public apology,” Ladoja said.
Akande, in a recent podcast interview with journalist Edmund Obilo, suggested that Ladoja might have critical information about Ige’s murder. Ige was assassinated on December 23, 2001, at his Bodija residence in Ibadan, and the case remains unresolved after 24 years.
During the interview, Akande lamented that key figures who could have provided insights, including former Oyo State governor Lam Adesina, had passed away. He alleged that Ladoja withdrew a legal case filed by Adesina to uncover Ige’s killers.
“Lam Adesina was the Chief Security Officer of Oyo State and went to court over the matter. The governor who succeeded him, Ladoja, withdrew the case. Ask Ladoja, he would know more about Bola Ige’s death,” Akande stated.
Responding to these claims, Ladoja dismissed them as false and accused Akande of distorting facts, even suggesting the former governor might be suffering from memory loss due to old age.
“Chief Bola Ige was assassinated on December 23, 2001—18 months before I assumed office as governor on May 29, 2003. I did not withdraw any case. The prosecution went all the way to the Supreme Court. Chief Akande lied against me,” Ladoja asserted.
He further emphasized his close relationship with Ige and questioned Akande’s motive for dragging him into the controversy.
“I was very close to Chief Bola Ige. If I had any information about his murder, I would have been the first to demand justice. Instead of falsely accusing me, Baba Akande should reveal the secrets he claims to know,” he added.
Ladoja concluded by reiterating his demand for a public apology, warning that legal action would follow if Akande fails to comply.
