(BREAKING) LG Poll: Kaduna Electoral Commission Declares APC Winners of 23 LGs, 255 Councilorship Seats
The Kaduna State Independent Electoral Commission (KADSIECOM) announced on Saturday the results of the 2024 Local Government Elections, confirming the All Progressives Congress (APC) as the winners of 23 chairmanship positions and 255 councillorship seats.
Commission Chairman Hajiya Mohammed commended the voters for their participation, stating, “We commend the people of Kaduna State, especially the voters who came out in their numbers to exercise their democratic franchise.”
In her declaration, she confirmed the results collected from returning officers, detailing that the APC won in local governments including Birnin-Gwari, Chikun, Igabi, Ikara, Jaba, Jema’a, Kachia, Kaduna North, and Kaduna South. The party also secured victories in Kagarko, Kajuru, Kaura, Kauru, Kubau, Kudan, Lere, Makarfi, Sabon Gari, Sanga, Soba, Zango-Kataf, and Zaria.
The breakdown of the councillorship positions shows that the APC cleared all 255 seats across various wards. The distribution includes:
- Birnin Gwari: 11 wards
- Chikun: 12 wards
- Giwa: 11 wards
- Igabi: 12 wards
- Ikara: 10 wards
- Jaba: 10 wards
- Jema’a: 12 wards
- Kachia: 12 wards
- Kaduna North: 12 wards
- Kaduna South: 13 wards
- Kagarko: 10 wards
- Kajuru: 10 wards
- Kaura: 10 wards
- Kauru: 11 wards
- Kubau: 11 wards
- Kudan: 10 wards
- Lere: 11 wards
- Makarfi: 10 wards
- Sabon Gari: 11 wards
- Sanga: 11 wards
- Soba: 11 wards
- Zango-Kataf: 11 wards
- Zaria: 13 wards
Hajiya Mohammed highlighted the peaceful conduct of the elections as a testament to the voters’ commitment to democracy, stating, “It shows that democracy is alive. We will continue to build on the successes recorded towards democratic consolidation.”
The chairman also acknowledged the efforts of the Commission’s staff, including commissioners, electoral officers, and their assistants, for their professionalism in conducting the elections.
A total of eight political parties participated in the elections: ADC, AAC, APGA, LP, NNPP, PDP, PRP, and YPP. The Electoral Officers and Returning Officers filed their reports, confirming the results as required by law.
Meanwhile, Governor Uba Sani expressed satisfaction with the conduct of the elections, describing them as generally free, fair, and peaceful, despite minor issues reported in three polling units. He emphasized the importance of local government elections and commended the turnout across the 23 local government areas.
Governor Sani urged voters to remain peaceful and reminded them that elections have both winners and losers, expressing confidence in the credibility of the electoral process.
