An Allied Air Cargo aircraft, registered as 5N-JRT, veered off Runway 22 at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport in Abuja, leading to a temporary closure of the facility.
The Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) confirmed the incident, which occurred at 10:05 a.m. today. All five individuals on board were safely evacuated, with no injuries reported.
FAAN’s Director of Public Affairs and Consumer Protection, Mrs. Obiageli Orah, stated: “The Airport Emergency Response Team is on-site along with accident investigators. The runway is being cleared and will reopen as soon as possible. We appreciate the understanding and patience of the aviation community and the public. Speculations should be avoided until the Nigeria Safety Investigation Bureau (NSIB) releases its preliminary findings.”
The evacuees underwent precautionary medical checks at the FAAN clinic. The incident has garnered attention from aviation stakeholders, and restoration efforts are underway to resume normal operations at the airport.
