Nigerian musician Darlington Okoye, popularly known as Speed Darlington or “Akpi,” has been transferred from Owerri, Imo State, to the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja, under the supervision of the Deputy Inspector-General (DIG) of Police, Dasuki Galadanchi. Sources suggest the move is part of a plan to escalate the legal proceedings against him.

Reports indicate that DIG Galadanchi has personally taken over Darlington’s case file from the initial police unit that handled his arrest. A source revealed, “Speed Darlington is being moved to Abuja and is now under the prosecution of DIG Dasuki Galadanchi, who felt his previous punishment was too lenient before bail was granted.”

This development follows Darlington’s recent arrest in Owerri, allegedly linked to a cyberstalking case involving Nigerian afrobeat star Burna Boy (Damini Ogulu). Human rights lawyer Deji Adeyanju, representing Darlington, earlier claimed that Burna Boy filed a petition against Darlington, leading to his arrest.

Adeyanju, in a social media post, criticized Burna Boy for his actions, stating, “This is someone who sings against oppression, now turning into an oppressor of Akpi.”

Darlington was initially detained in Lagos and later moved to Abuja, where he was held at the IGP’s Intelligence Response Team (IRT) facility in Guzape. While police officials refused to provide a copy of the petition to Darlington’s legal team, Adeyanju was allowed to review its contents and maintained that the petition lacked substance to justify the arrest.

Efforts are reportedly underway to secure Darlington’s release on bail, with Adeyanju confirming the musician remains in good spirits despite the ongoing ordeal.
