Breaking:Former Kogi Governor Yahaya Bello Responds to EFCC Summons
Yahaya Bello, the former governor of Kogi State, has officially responded to a summons from the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) following allegations of corruption and money laundering amounting to ₦80.2 billion.
Although previously declared wanted by the EFCC, Bello has consistently affirmed his commitment to the rule of law and respect for legal authorities.
In a statement released by his media team, Bello’s decision to meet with the EFCC came after careful consultation with his family, legal advisors, and political associates. He emphasized that his actions were driven by a desire to uphold his fundamental rights and ensure due legal process.
Part of the statement reads: “The matter is currently before a court of competent jurisdiction, and Alhaji Yahaya Bello has been represented by his legal team at all hearings. It is now appropriate for the former Governor to engage with the EFCC and clear his name, as he has no wrongdoing to hide or fear.
The former Governor remains committed to the administration of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and supports the ongoing fight against corruption in Nigeria. It is noteworthy that Bello was the first governor in Kogi State to establish an anti-corruption framework aimed at preventing graft and ensuring that state resources were utilized for the benefit of its citizens.
He arrived at the EFCC headquarters accompanied by several prominent individuals.
We trust that the EFCC will conduct itself professionally and respect his fundamental rights as a Nigerian citizen.
Further details regarding his interaction with the anti-corruption agency will be shared in due course.”
