A Catholic priest, Joseph Kariuki Wanjiku, tragically passed away after spending the night with a woman at a hotel in Gatanga, Kenya. The 43-year-old priest, who was in charge of St. Peters Ruai, died on the morning of Saturday, July 8.
According to a police report, Father Wanjiku and the woman, described as his girlfriend, checked into Monalisa Hotel Delview on the evening of Friday, July 7. The following morning, the priest began feeling unwell, and his condition rapidly deteriorated.
Around 8:00 AM on Saturday, the woman notified the hotel management that Father Wanjiku was feeling dizzy and was losing consciousness. Hotel staff and the woman rushed him to Kenol Hospital, but he was pronounced dead upon arrival.
The police report further revealed that the priest was found in the back seat of his car, which had been used to transport him to the hospital. His body was partially covered with a hotel bedsheet, and white foam was observed coming from his mouth and nose.
The body of Father Wanjiku was moved to Mater Hospital Mortuary in Nairobi, where an autopsy will be conducted. Police have taken the food and drinks consumed by the priest and his companion for further analysis as investigations continue into the cause of his death.
