Chelsea Pursue Ivan Toney Transfer Amid Interest from Saudi Arabia
Brentford and England striker Ivan Toney has become a late summer transfer target for Chelsea, as the club seeks to bolster its attacking options. Toney, who is also attracting interest from Saudi Pro League team Al Ahli, is in the final year of his contract with Brentford.
Chelsea, in search of a proven goal scorer to fill their No. 9 role, has expressed interest in Toney. The club had previously been linked with Napoli striker Victor Osimhen.
With less than a year remaining on his contract, Toney has not featured in Brentford’s first two Premier League matches of the season, against Crystal Palace and Liverpool.
Brentford had been in negotiations with Al Ahli regarding a potential transfer, but as of last week, the Saudi Arabian club had yet to meet Brentford’s valuation of the striker.
While Toney has received a lucrative offer from Saudi Arabia, Chelsea can offer him the chance to continue playing in the Premier League.
Al Ahli already boasts several former Premier League stars in their squad, including Riyad Mahrez, Edouard Mendy, and Roberto Firmino.
Redknapp: Brentford’s Last Opportunity to Cash In
“This is Brentford’s last chance to secure a significant transfer fee for Toney, with his contract expiring soon. Although there was speculation about a move to Arsenal a year ago, that didn’t materialize. Now, Chelsea is considering him, but Saudi Arabia also presents an attractive opportunity for Toney.
“He could opt to see out his contract and leave as a free agent next year, but it seems he’s looking to make a move now.”
