Chelsea’s Move for Victor Osimhen in Jeopardy Due to Wage Demands; Club Identifies Cheaper Alternatives
Chelsea’s pursuit of Napoli striker Victor Osimhen appears to be faltering as the player’s substantial wage demands pose a significant obstacle. Negotiations between Chelsea, Napoli, and Osimhen’s representatives have been ongoing throughout the summer, but an agreement has yet to be reached.
The Blues initially attempted to secure Osimhen on loan, hoping to avoid paying his hefty £110 million release clause. However, Napoli rejected this proposal and have instead agreed to a separate £38 million deal for Romelu Lukaku.
With Osimhen, 25, formally submitting a transfer request, he is expected to leave the Italian club. Paris Saint-Germain is also showing interest in the Nigerian striker.
Chelsea, on the other hand, is keen on reducing its wage bill, which has led to the sidelining of players like Raheem Sterling. This financial caution means the club is unlikely to meet Osimhen’s wage demands.
In light of this, Chelsea is exploring other striker options, including Juventus’ Federico Chiesa and Everton’s Dominic Calvert-Lewin, both of whom are considered more affordable.
Additionally, Samu Omorodion, a forward Chelsea nearly signed from Atletico Madrid earlier this month, has instead joined Porto.
Despite already signing 11 new players this summer, five of whom are attackers, new manager Enzo Maresca is determined to add one more striker to the squad.
