Gunmen suspected to be bandits abducted the village head of Ungwan Babangida and 14 other residents during a nighttime raid in Kauru Local Government Area of Kaduna State.
The attack, which occurred on Thursday night, was confirmed by Aminu Khalid, youth leader of Dokan Karji, during an interview on Friday. Khalid reported that the armed assailants stormed Ungwan Babangida village at midnight, firing indiscriminately before abducting their victims.
This incident follows closely on the heels of another attack in the same local government area, where bandits kidnapped four farmers from Libere community on Wednesday.
According to Khalid, the abducted individuals from Ungwan Babangida include the village head, Babangida Sojiji, three women, and nine men. Among the victims were two laborers who had traveled from Jigawa State and Ikara Local Government Area in Kaduna for farming activities.
“The situation in Kauru has become dire,” Khalid stated. “These bandits have occupied several villages, killed breadwinners, and made life unbearable for residents. The federal government and security agencies must step up efforts to dismantle these criminal networks.”
He also acknowledged the vigilance of local security groups, crediting them for successfully thwarting several kidnapping attempts in nearby villages.
Residents of Kauru continue to call for urgent military intervention to address the escalating insecurity in the region.
