The Cross River State Commissioner for Works, Pius Edet, has reaffirmed Governor Bassey Otu’s commitment to advancing road infrastructure despite the state’s financial constraints.
Speaking during an inspection of ongoing road projects in Calabar, the state capital, Edet highlighted the government’s dedication to improving vital infrastructure, particularly roads, even amidst resource limitations.
He emphasized that Governor Otu is using innovative strategies to maximize available resources, ensuring that investments in road development align with the state’s broader growth objectives.
“The government understands that infrastructure is essential for economic development and enhancing the quality of life for our people. We are carefully managing our resources to deliver impactful projects,” Edet said.
The commissioner commended the Otu administration for its visionary leadership and pointed out that ongoing road projects across the state reflect the governor’s determination to drive sustainable development.
Edet also shared the government’s strategy of using direct labour for some road projects to promote local content, optimize resource use, and reduce capital flight. Successful projects completed through this approach include the 30-meter Yellow Duke Bridge, MCC Road, Odukpani Junction, Satellite Town, and a 400-meter stretch of Edem Ekpenyong Street along Otop Abasi Road, among others.
He emphasized the positive impact these projects are having on the lives of Cross Riverians.
While reaffirming the government’s commitment to completing key infrastructure projects, Edet expressed hope that an increase in the state’s internally generated revenue would provide additional funding for ongoing development efforts.
The commissioner also called on all residents of Cross River to continue supporting the Otu-led administration, assuring that the government remains focused on fulfilling its development goals for the benefit of the community.
