Nigerian Afrobeats sensation David Adeleke, widely known as Davido, has alleged that plans are underway to cancel his much-anticipated December concert in Nigeria.
The singer attributed this development to backlash over his remarks about Nigeria’s struggling economy during his appearance on the American podcast Big Homies House. In the interview, Davido discouraged Americans from relocating to Africa, particularly Nigeria, citing the nation’s economic challenges as a deterrent.
His comments sparked widespread criticism among Nigerians, both domestically and in the diaspora, with notable figures such as Joe Igbokwe and Reno Omokri accusing him of tarnishing the country’s image internationally.
In response to the criticism, Davido took to X (formerly Twitter), defending his stance and referring to entertainers like himself as the true representatives of Nigeria. “Y’all mad ‘cause we the real ambassadors!” he wrote.
Yall mad cus we the Real AMBASSADORS!! 🇳🇬🌎
