Nigerian Afrobeats sensation Davido has highlighted the urgent need for effective leadership to propel Nigeria and Africa toward greater achievements.
In an interview with Elevate Africa released on YouTube on Thursday, the internationally acclaimed artist discussed the resilience of Nigerians and the potential for transformative progress under visionary leadership.
“We can’t go forward without…we need the best leaders now first, that’s the most important thing,” Davido stated.
He acknowledged the determination and adaptability of Nigerians but pointed out that the lack of strong leadership has stalled the nation’s advancement.
Responding to the question, “Where do you think Africa should be by now, and how do we get there through music?” Davido emphasized the resilience of Nigerians, noting their ability to succeed even in tough circumstances.
“I tell people, I say if you can survive in Lagos or you can survive in Nigeria rather, you can survive anywhere. I feel like we’re survivors; we’re strong-willed people,” he observed.
Despite widespread challenges, Davido highlighted the influence of Nigerians worldwide as a testament to their resilience and global impact.
“Nigeria, if you go anywhere in the world, everybody has Nigerian friends. Whether you’re Chinese or…you have Nigerian friends everywhere in the world. I fly to do shows, Nigerian restaurants are there, and Nigerian communities are there. It just shows that we’re a force,” he added.
For Davido, this global presence demonstrates Nigeria’s potential to lead internationally, provided it secures competent governance.
“I just feel the only thing that is missing is just the right leaders to lead us. Once we get that right, I don’t think there’s anything that will stop us,” he concluded.
