EFCC Arrests Four Suspects for Allegedly Hacking Bank Systems in Abuja

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has apprehended four individuals suspected of unauthorized access to bank computer systems and fraudulent withdrawal of depositors’ funds.
Among those arrested is the alleged leader of the syndicate, Chima Nwigwe, along with Effiong Emmanuel, Damian Ali, and Mohammed Mahmud, who serves as the Managing Director of Downstone Ultimate Limited. According to a statement by EFCC spokesperson Dele Oyewale, the arrests were made during a sting operation in Abuja based on credible intelligence.
“The EFCC has detained Chima Anthony Nwigwe, suspected leader of the bank hacking group, along with Effiong Victor Emmanuel, Mohammed Bello Mahmud, and Damian Ali, for alleged conspiracy, unauthorized access to bank systems, and the fraudulent withdrawal of funds,” Oyewale stated.
The suspects reportedly hacked into and compromised the databases of commercial banks, facilitating unauthorized transfers and withdrawals through various digital platforms. The EFCC has indicated that the suspects will face charges in court upon the completion of the investigation.
