Tesla CEO Elon Musk has stirred controversy by accusing British Prime Minister Keir Starmer of being complicit in the “Rape of Britain” during his tenure as the head of the Crown Prosecution Service (CPS) between 2008 and 2013.
Musk’s comments relate to the widely condemned child grooming gang scandal in the UK, particularly in Rotherham, where gangs of predominantly Pakistani-heritage men were accused of abusing and exploiting young girls. Many have criticized the authorities for failing to intervene earlier, and Musk claims that Starmer, during his leadership at the CPS, did not adequately address these crimes.
Musk has called for Starmer’s resignation and prosecution, alleging that Starmer must face legal charges for his supposed role in the scandal. The billionaire also expressed support for the Reform UK party, known for its criticism of the Labour government, and voiced his backing for the release of jailed activist Tommy Robinson, a prominent figure in the anti-grooming gang movement.
The remarks have ignited a broader conversation about how the UK government has handled the issue of child grooming gangs, with some British MPs, including Reform’s Rupert Lowe and Robert Jenrick of Newark, advocating for stricter sentences and more accountability for those involved.
In his posts on X, Musk wrote: “Starmer was complicit in the RAPE OF BRITAIN when he was head of Crown Prosecution for 6 years. Starmer must go and he must face charges for his complicity in the worst mass crime in the history of Britain.”
He also criticized Starmer’s record as head of the CPS, questioning his response to the investigation of “rape gangs” across Britain. Additionally, Musk referenced a recent YouGov poll showing a sharp drop in support for the Labour government, with only 12% of respondents claiming Labour had been successful so far, while over half described it as “incompetent” and “dishonest.”
Musk’s comments have added to growing calls for a new election in Britain, with some, including Musk, pointing to the poll results to suggest a shift in public opinion. Starmer’s Labour government, which holds a significant majority, is not expected to face another election until 2029.
Musk also reiterated his support for the right-wing Reform UK party, claiming that it might be the “only way to save” Britain. This follows his recent meeting with Nigel Farage at Mar-a-Lago in Florida, where some reports claimed Musk had pledged substantial financial support for the party, though Musk denied such claims.
In addition, Musk called for the release of Tommy Robinson, the right-wing activist jailed in October for publishing defamatory content about a Syrian refugee. Robinson views himself as a political prisoner and has claimed he was imprisoned for “speaking the truth.”
This is not the first time Musk has sharply criticized the UK government. Earlier this year, he suggested that civil war was inevitable in the UK under Starmer’s leadership. His comments have sparked backlash from London, which dismissed his statements as “totally unjustified.”
Musk’s remarks about British politics echo similar criticisms of other global leaders, including German Chancellor Olaf Scholz, whom Musk predicted would lose snap elections in February. This comment led to concerns that Musk’s statements might strain relations between the US and Germany.
