Emirates, the Dubai-based airline, has implemented a ban on pagers and walkie-talkies aboard its flights in response to recent sabotage attacks in Lebanon. The airline has also extended flight suspensions to certain Middle Eastern destinations due to the escalating regional tensions.
In a statement, Emirates announced that passengers flying to, from, or through Dubai are prohibited from carrying pagers and walkie-talkies in either checked or carry-on luggage. This comes after communication devices linked to the Hezbollah group exploded in Lebanon, an attack the group attributed to Israeli actions.
The airline warned that any such items found in baggage would be confiscated by Dubai Police, according to an update on its website on Friday.
The blasts in Lebanon last month resulted in at least 37 deaths and thousands of injuries.
Emirates, the largest airline in the Middle East, has also extended the suspension of its flights to Iraq and Iran until Tuesday. These cancellations follow a recent Iranian missile attack on Israel, with rockets passing over Iraq and Iran.
While flights to Jordan are set to resume on Sunday, services to and from Lebanon will remain halted until October 15 as Israeli military operations in the country, including in areas near Beirut’s airport, intensify.
Several other airlines have similarly suspended flights to Beirut and other locations in the region.
