The residents of Enu Agu, a newly established autonomous community in Akpugo, Nkanu West Local Government Area of Enugu State, have praised Governor Peter Mba for the swift development the state has experienced since he assumed office in May 2023.
The community also expressed their strong backing for their newly installed traditional ruler, Igwe Sylvester Nnaji, and the town union leadership, while distancing themselves from a recent protest targeting the monarch and town union. The protest was allegedly staged at the Enugu State House of Assembly and the Ministry of Chieftaincy Affairs.
In a statement, the President General of Enu Agu, Mr. Ikenna Ogbodo, described the protest as being orchestrated by an opposition party leader, labeling the demonstrators as outsiders not representing the community. Ogbodo claimed that the opposition figure sought to manipulate the monarch and town union for personal gain, particularly in relation to unauthorized land dealings. After failing in this effort, the individual reportedly instigated the protest.
Ogbodo emphasized that Enu Agu remains peaceful, with its residents conducting their daily activities without unrest. He further noted that the individual stirring trouble in the community is originally from the neighboring Ogonogo-Eji Ndiagu Akpugo community.
The process of electing Igwe Sylvester Nnaji as the traditional ruler of Enu Agu began shortly after the community’s creation under the previous state administration. Nnaji was formally presented to the local government and subsequently received a certificate of recognition from the Ministry of Chieftaincy Affairs.
In addition to praising Governor Mba’s leadership, the community acknowledged the development of the PRODA-Nchatancha Nike Road, which is fostering growth and investment in the Akpugo region. They pledged their continued support for the governor and his administration, commending the rapid progress seen in Enugu State within a short period.
