On Saturday, fans of film legend Alain Delon gathered at the entrance of his country estate for his funeral, which was attended only by close family and friends. Delon, known for classics such as “Le Samourai,” “The Leopard,” and “Purple Noon,” passed away at the age of 88.

Delon was laid to rest at his La Brulerie manor, located south of Paris, near his beloved dogs. French authorities set up roadblocks around the estate in Douchy and closed the airspace above for the weekend to manage the crowd.

Although the estate’s private chapel could only accommodate about 50 mourners, fans gathered outside to leave flowers and tributes. Before the ceremony, a sizable crowd had assembled, reflecting the widespread admiration Delon received.

Delon’s three children, who were with him at the time of his death, expressed deep gratitude for the global outpouring of affection. Among the attendees will be Delon’s ex-wife Rosalie van Breemen and actresses Nicole Calfan, Muriel Robin, and Geraldine Danon.

The funeral ceremony is scheduled for 4:00 pm local time. Delon, a prominent figure in French cinema’s golden era of the 1960s, remains a significant but controversial figure. His personal life, marked by allegations of domestic violence and controversial political views, has generated considerable debate.

In his later years, Delon lived largely in seclusion but continued to attract media attention. His children recently accused his live-in assistant Hiromi Rollin of harassment, adding to the drama surrounding his final years.

Despite his requests to have his favorite dog Loubo euthanized and buried with him, Brigitte Bardot confirmed that Loubo would be spared and cared for by Delon’s family.

Delon, who was a devout Catholic, often spoke of his deep affection for the Virgin Mary, describing her as his greatest passion. Despite his controversial reputation, his legacy in cinema remains impactful.
