The Commissioner of Police for the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Bennett Igweh, has vowed to apprehend those responsible for the recent killing of two police officers by members of the Islamic Movement of Nigeria (IMN), commonly known as Shi’ites.

In a press briefing on Sunday night, CP Igweh expressed his determination to bring those responsible to justice. He revealed that, in addition to the two officers who lost their lives, four others, including a female officer, were left unconscious and are currently receiving treatment in the hospital. The Shi’ite members also reportedly set three police vehicles on fire during the attack.

CP Igweh stated that the Shi’ite members initiated the violent confrontation without provocation, attacking police personnel on duty. He described the attack as brutal and unprovoked, emphasizing that his officers were simply performing their duties when they were assaulted.

The Commissioner also mentioned that 52 members of the Shi’ite group have been arrested in connection with the incident. These individuals are reportedly being detained as the police continue to gather intelligence on how the attack was coordinated. The suspects are said to have come from various locations, including the FCT, Niger, and Nasarawa states.

Igweh denied any allegations that the police had provoked the Shi’ite members, maintaining that the attack was a deliberate and unprovoked assault on law enforcement officers. He assured the public that those responsible for the violence would face justice.

This incident has sparked outrage and heightened tensions within the region as the police continue their investigation.
