The Federal University Lokoja in Kogi State has terminated the employment of four lecturers due to allegations of sexual harassment and examination-related misconduct. The identities of the lecturers have not been disclosed, and the decision was ratified by the university’s Governing Council.
During the council’s second meeting, chaired by Senator Victor Ndoma-Egba, the university leadership was commended for following due process in handling the investigations. Ndoma-Egba called on university management to swiftly address remaining cases of misconduct, including a prominent case within the Faculty of Science that has drawn media attention.
Senator Ndoma-Egba also urged all faculty members and staff to adhere strictly to university policies, emphasizing that any breaches of conduct would not be tolerated. He encouraged students to report any instances of harassment or mistreatment to the relevant authorities, assuring them of protection.
This development follows an earlier case in May, when the university suspended a lecturer from the Department of English and Literary Studies over accusations of sexual harassment involving a 300-level student from the same department. The lecturer’s case was referred to the Department of State Services (DSS) for further investigation and possible legal action, and he was stripped of all academic and administrative responsibilities pending the outcome.
