The Minister of State for Defence, Dr. Bello Muhammed Matawalle, has condemned recent remarks made by former Minister of Transport, Rotimi Amaechi, accusing him of inciting unrest among Nigerians.
Amaechi had suggested that Nigerians should protest against the current economic hardships in the country.
In a statement released by Henshaw Ogubike, the Director of Information at the Ministry of Defence, Matawalle issued a strong warning to Amaechi, urging him to refrain from making inflammatory statements that could jeopardize the nation’s peace and stability.
Matawalle expressed serious concern over the potential risks associated with such rhetoric, stating, “It is both reckless and irresponsible for a former public servant of Amaechi’s stature to incite Nigerians against their own government.”
He emphasized that this is a critical time when President Bola Ahmed Tinubu is diligently working to tackle the nation’s challenges through various reforms that are beginning to yield positive results.
“It is absurd, preposterous, and shameful for anyone to exploit the genuine hardships faced by our citizens for selfish political gain,” Matawalle continued.
The minister reiterated President Tinubu’s commitment to maintaining the peace and security of all Nigerians, warning that any attempts to destabilize the country through incitement will be met with firm opposition.
“We will not allow anyone to fuel violence or manipulate the current situation of our people. Let this serve as a final warning to Amaechi and his associates,” Matawalle asserted.
He further expressed disappointment, stating that Amaechi should collaborate with the government to advance the country, rather than resorting to narrow-minded assertions.
