Omowunmi Akinnifesi, a former Most Beautiful Girl in Nigeria, has shared her deeply personal decision to remain a virgin until the age of 37. In a reflective YouTube video titled “The Walk in Purity | A Sacred Vessel,” released in celebration of her 37th birthday, she opened up about the challenges and triumphs of her journey, encouraging women to embrace their values amidst societal pressures.
Akinnifesi highlighted the significance of self-worth and staying committed to personal principles, inviting women to join what she termed a movement towards “living in purity.”
In her own words, she expressed:
- “It’s almost as if we, as women, no longer understand our value or morals.”
- “I made a covenant with God at 18 to keep myself.”
- “People often use the term ‘celibate,’ but I’ve never done it before. However, I spent my 20s making mistakes, learning, and trying to navigate life the best way I could.”
She admitted that staying true to her commitment often came with a sense of isolation and even shame. “For a long time, I walked in shame because of my decision. Friends laughed when I opened up, and I even heard false rumors about my relationships—stories that weren’t true but, ironically, made it easier to hide my truth.”
Through her story, Akinnifesi hopes to inspire others to recognize their worth and hold steadfast to their values, regardless of societal expectations.
