Governor Siminalayi Fubara of Rivers State has officially sworn in the newly elected chairmen of the state’s 23 local government areas, following their victories in Saturday’s local council elections.
The swearing-in ceremony took place on Sunday at the Executive Council Chambers, Government House, Port Harcourt. Among those inaugurated were 22 chairmen from the Action Peoples Party (APP) and one from the Action Alliance.
The Rivers State Independent Electoral Commission (RSIEC) had earlier declared the APP victorious in 22 local government areas, with the Action Alliance winning one chairmanship seat.
In his address, Governor Fubara congratulated the chairmen on their successful elections and urged them to begin fulfilling their campaign promises by working towards improving the welfare of their communities.
The event was attended by dignitaries, including Bauchi State Governor Bala Mohammed, who is also the Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Governors’ Forum. As required by the state government, each chairman was accompanied by a guest.
