Germany has introduced a new online platform to streamline the visa application process for Nigerians and individuals from other countries seeking to work, study, or reunite with family in Germany.
Foreign Minister Annalena Baerbock hailed the initiative as a significant step toward addressing the country’s critical shortage of skilled workers.
“Germany faces a shortfall of at least 400,000 skilled workers annually—professionals and talents who are vital to sectors like skilled crafts, healthcare, and technology,” Baerbock said. “Our economy competes globally for trainees, apprentices, and students. We cannot afford to discourage the best minds from coming here with outdated paper applications and long waiting times.”
She emphasized the need for a modern, digital, and secure visa process to align with Germany’s status as a leading global economy and a modern immigration destination.
The new platform, accessible worldwide, offers 28 categories of national visas and is available across all 167 German visa offices. The portal aims to simplify the application process and make Germany a more attractive destination for skilled workers and students.
This digital innovation is part of Germany’s broader strategy to modernize its immigration system and address the country’s pressing labor shortages. By easing visa access, Germany seeks to attract talent globally and ensure a more inclusive, efficient, and responsive immigration process.
