A tense moment unfolded in Ghana’s Parliament on Friday as Colonel Isaac Amponsah, the Aide-de-Camp (ADC) to President Nana Akufo-Addo, collapsed while on duty during the President’s final State of the Nation address.
The incident occurred shortly after President Akufo-Addo began highlighting his administration’s accomplishments over the past eight years.
In a widely circulated video, Amponsah can be seen standing guard in the parliamentary chamber when he suddenly lost consciousness and fell. Members of Parliament’s medical team swiftly intervened, providing immediate assistance.
After receiving first aid on-site, Colonel Amponsah was transported to a nearby medical facility for further evaluation.
The visibly concerned President paused his address momentarily to ensure his ADC received urgent care before continuing his speech. In the interim, the aide-de-camp to Vice President Mahamudu Bawumia stepped in to stand behind the President.
As of the time of this report, the cause of Colonel Amponsah’s collapse and his current condition have not been disclosed.
