Governor Diri Approves N80,000 Minimum Wage for Bayelsa Civil Servants
Bayelsa State Governor, Douye Diri, has set a new minimum wage of N80,000 for civil servants, effective from November 1, 2024. Additionally, Diri has approved an increase in monthly pensions for retirees and allocated N7 billion toward gratuities to reduce outstanding payments.
This was revealed in a statement by the Chief Press Secretary, Daniel Alabrah, on Saturday in Yenagoa. Alabrah noted that Governor Diri recognized the financial strain on workers due to the increased cost of living.
“To address these economic challenges and comply with the National Minimum Wage (Amendment Act 2024), Governor Diri’s administration has approved N80,000 as the minimum wage for state workers,” the statement read.
It also highlighted that the governor has sanctioned adjustments for various sectors, following discussions with labor representatives in the state, and that retirees will see an increase in their monthly pensions. Furthermore, the payment of N7 billion toward gratuity liabilities aims to ease financial pressures on retired citizens.
Governor Diri expressed gratitude to civil servants for their patience and dedication to his administration’s initiatives.
