Governor Peter Mbah of Enugu State has approved a new minimum wage of N80,000 for workers in the state, starting from October 2024.
The governor made the announcement on Thursday through his official X account, highlighting the importance of this development for the state’s workforce.
“I have approved a new minimum wage of N80,000 for Enugu workers, effective October 2024. We recognize the dedication and sacrifices of our workers and remain committed to improving their welfare, as promised during our campaign,” he posted.
This decision comes after similar actions in other states. Earlier, Akwa Ibom Governor Umo Eno also announced an N80,000 minimum wage for civil servants. Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu and Rivers State Governor Siminalayi Fubara both approved N85,000 minimum wages for their workers in mid-October.
The move follows the signing of a new minimum wage law by President Bola Tinubu in July, which raised the national minimum wage from N30,000 to N70,000.
