The Ogun State Police have apprehended a 29-year-old man. Ogunnaike Philip, who confessed to the murder of three young girls, including an 18-year-old. in separate incidents.
During a live broadcast by TVC, the state’s Commissioner of Police, Abiodun Alamutu, revealed that initial suspicions arose about Philip’s mental state. However, after a thorough conversation, it was clear that he was fully aware of his actions.
According to Alamutu. Philip committed the murders with the intention of extorting money. His method involved abducting the victims, stealing their phones, and then tying them up before killing them. After the killings. Philip would use the victims’ phones to contact their families, demanding ransom payments. In one instance, he received 50.000 naira, while in the other two cases, he managed to extort 30.000 naira and 17.000 naira respectively.
Alamutu stated: “At first, I thought he might be mentally unstable, but after speaking with him, it became clear that he is of sound mind. His motive was financial gain. He would steal their phones, tie them up, and then kill them. Afterward, he would demand ransom from their families using the victims’ phones. He extorted 50.000 naira in one case, 30.000 naira in another, and 17,000 naira in the final incident.”
