Headline: Defence Headquarters Confirms Investigation Into Allegations Against Tinubu’s Minister and Others Over Banditry Links
The Defence Headquarters (DHQ) has officially responded to allegations of bandit sponsorship in Nigeria’s North West region, which implicate high-ranking officials, including Minister of State for Defence, Bello Matawalle. This follows a public feud between Zamfara State Governor, Dauda Lawal, and his predecessor, Matawalle, over claims of involvement in funding banditry.
At a press briefing on Thursday, Major General Edward Buba, Director of Media Operations, confirmed that relevant agencies are actively investigating the allegations. While Buba did not specifically name any individuals, he assured that updates would be provided soon.
“We are investigating the allegations, and relevant agencies are doing a good job. Sooner than later, you will hear some announcements in that regard,” Buba stated.
The military remains focused on dismantling bandit groups, with Buba emphasizing that victory in the war against banditry involves destroying the enemy’s will to fight.
