The Hisbah Board in Yobe State has destroyed over 170 bottles of alcoholic beverages valued at N450,000 in Gashua, located in Bade Local Government Area. The confiscation occurred during a patrol led by Hisbah officials at a local hotel in Gashua.
A vendor linked to the sales was arrested and sentenced to jail for violating the state’s prohibition on alcohol. Ibrahim Babagana Yurema, Chairman of Bade Local Government Area, who spearheaded the operation, emphasized the board’s commitment to curbing the sale and consumption of alcohol in the state.
According to Yurema, the initiative aims to address the increasing prevalence of alcohol use among youth, which he described as detrimental to mental well-being and against Islamic teachings. “The council is determined to combat this immoral act to protect our community from its harmful effects,” he stated.
Malam Isah Ibrahim, Zonal Commandant of the Hisbah Board for Yobe North, explained that the operation was carried out following a Sharia Court ruling. The court found the alcohol vendor guilty, sentenced him to prison, and ordered the destruction of the confiscated whisky.
The Hisbah Board reaffirmed its dedication to upholding Islamic laws and values in the state.
