On Monday, the House of Representatives issued a warning to social media activist Martins Otse, also known as VeryDarkMan, threatening him with arrest. The warning came from the chairman of the House committee investigating bribery allegations involving the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) and the Nigerian Correctional Service (NCoS) in connection with crossdresser Idris Okuneye, popularly known as Bobrisky.

As previously reported by Naija News, VeryDarkMan had appeared before the committee following a summons but refused to speak, citing the absence of both Bobrisky and the EFCC chairman.

In response, the lawmakers made it clear that the activist could not dictate how they conduct their proceedings. They insisted that since he was present, it was his responsibility to present his side of the story, and they would decide how to address the absence of the other parties involved.

The committee members emphasized that they have the authority to order VeryDarkMan’s arrest if he refuses to cooperate. They also urged his legal counsel to properly advise him on the matter.

“You are not in a position to determine whether Bobrisky appears before us or not—that decision is ours to make. We can also compel him to appear if necessary, and we have the power to arrest him if he does not comply,” the chairman stated.

The chairman further warned that if VeryDarkMan continued to resist speaking, the committee could invoke its powers against him.

“The allegations you made have led to this committee summoning top government officials, so as a key witness, you must testify. Otherwise, we will exercise our authority. You need to speak to the claims you have made.”

He also advised VeryDarkMan to proceed with his testimony and not to be misled, urging his lawyer to provide sound guidance.
