At a tribute held at First Baptist Church in Garki, Abuja, on Wednesday, political figures, friends, and family gathered to honor the late Senator Jonathan Zwingina, who passed away on October 3, just weeks after celebrating his 70th birthday. He was remembered for his integrity, leadership, and contributions to Nigeria’s democracy.
In an emotional tribute, Zwingina’s first son, Kabrh, shared the touching details of his father’s final moments. He recalled how they had called Reverend Tom to pray at the hospital after sensing that something was off. “He led us in prayers of salvation and forgiveness, and barely 20 seconds later, my dad passed,” Kabrh revealed, emphasizing the peace their father found before his death.
Prominent political figures, including Professor Jerry Gana, former Senate President Ken Nnamani, and former SGF Boss Mustapha, paid their respects. They described Zwingina as a man of vision, integrity, and excellence. Gana highlighted his role in shaping the early days of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and restoring democracy in Nigeria.
Ken Nnamani likened Zwingina to football greats Ronaldo and Messi for his intellect and memory during Constitutional Amendments debates in the Senate, calling him an “encyclopedia.”
Zwingina’s long-time friend Boss Mustapha reflected on their decades-long friendship, emphasizing his wisdom and impact on Adamawa State politics. Jonah Jang, former governor of Plateau State, also praised his excellence and hard work since they first met over 40 years ago.
Among other dignitaries present were former Senate President Adolphus Wabara, who called Zwingina a “true Nigerian,” and Reverend Israel Akanji, who praised the late senator’s contributions to the church.
The tribute was attended by several high-profile figures, including David Mark, Babachir Lawal, and Labaran Maku, among others.
