The Northern Elders Progressive Group has commended President Bola Tinubu for his decisive actions in addressing insecurity in northern Nigeria, particularly through his “Fansan Yamma” strategy. In a statement issued in Kaduna on Thursday, the group’s Chairman for the Northwest, Mustafa Dutsin Ma, hailed Tinubu’s approach of targeting bandits’ hideouts directly as a significant step toward restoring peace in the region.
Dutsin Ma emphasized that President Tinubu’s strategy, which involves deploying military force to eliminate bandit strongholds, has yielded promising results. He cited the recent visit by the Minister of State for Defense, Mohammed Matawalle, to Sokoto State—a hotspot for banditry—as evidence of the government’s commitment to tackling the security challenges.
“We are pleased that the federal government, under President Tinubu, is decisively confronting banditry, ensuring that these criminal enclaves are destroyed without mercy,” the statement read.
The group also urged northern governors to collaborate closely with the federal government to enhance the effectiveness of the security measures. They specifically lauded the Governor of Sokoto, Ahmed Aliyu, for his efforts in coordinating with federal authorities to address the region’s security issues.
The Northern Elders assured President Tinubu of their ongoing support, offering advice and goodwill to help achieve his goals of fostering peace and unity across the nation. They also acknowledged the sacrifices of military personnel, including the Chief of Defense Staff, General Christopher Musa, in making previously uninhabitable areas safer.
Additionally, the group encouraged the President to extend similar on-the-ground visits by military leaders to other states facing insecurity, as it could boost morale and improve the effectiveness of security operations.
