The Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), through its Directorate of State (DOS), has called on Ndigbo and other Biafrans to return to the South East to celebrate the Christmas season. The group assured that its Eastern Security Network (ESN) would provide a safe and peaceful environment during the festivities.
In a statement issued by IPOB’s Media and Publicity Secretary, Comrade Emma Powerful, the group reaffirmed its commitment to addressing insecurity in the South East and promoting peace and development in the region. IPOB emphasized that Alaigbo is historically a peaceful area and urged Igbos to actively contribute to maintaining harmony, which it described as essential for economic progress.
“Peace is crucial for our region to thrive as an economic hub in Africa. Every Igbo man and woman must prioritize security and stability in Alaigbo,” the statement noted. The group accused the Nigerian government of worsening insecurity in the region through excessive militarization and alleged oppressive tactics.
IPOB reiterated its dedication to safeguarding investments in the South East, encouraging Igbos to invest in their homeland to stimulate development and create employment opportunities for young people.
The group also warned criminals to avoid the South East during the holiday period, stating that ESN operatives and IPOB volunteers are committed to eliminating threats to the region’s safety. Additionally, IPOB accused Nigerian security forces of sponsoring criminal activities to justify continued militarization and called for the removal of all unauthorized military and police checkpoints in the region, labeling them as avenues for extortion and harassment.
Highlighting the role of ESN operatives, IPOB stated that they are actively protecting forests and bushes in the region to prevent criminal elements from establishing hideouts. Residents were encouraged to reach out to ESN operatives via official security contact numbers for assistance when needed.
The statement concluded by urging stakeholders to prioritize peace and development in Alaigbo, reiterating IPOB’s commitment to protecting lives, properties, and investments.
As the festive season approaches, IPOB’s assurance of security aims to encourage Biafrans to reconnect with their homeland and contribute to the region’s stability and growth.
