Thousands of Kaduna residents took to the streets in protest against what they describe as Governor Uba Sani’s “rigging formula,” accusing the governor of manipulating the electoral process to secure his position.

The demonstrators, including civil society groups, local activists, and concerned citizens, expressed their frustration with the state government’s alleged involvement in electoral malpractice. Chanting slogans and carrying placards, the protesters marched through key streets in the capital city, demanding transparency and accountability in the political system.

One of the protest leaders, Musa Ibrahim, accused the governor of undermining democracy in the state. “We are tired of leaders who manipulate the people’s will. Kaduna deserves better governance, and we will not stand for election rigging,” he said during the protest.

Many residents have also taken to social media, sharing their concerns and calling for the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to investigate the alleged irregularities that have marred recent local government elections. They claim that the so-called “rigging formula” allowed Governor Sani and his allies to stay in power by using various tactics to manipulate vote counts, including intimidation and vote-buying.

Governor Uba Sani has not yet responded to the allegations. However, sources close to the government have dismissed the protests as politically motivated, claiming that the governor has always prioritized fair governance and democratic values.

As tensions continue to rise, observers worry that the protests may escalate, with more residents expected to join the demonstrations in the coming days. Security forces have been deployed to maintain order, although the protests have remained peaceful so far.

Local leaders and elders have called for calm and urged the state government to address the grievances raised by the protesters to avoid further unrest. Many are hopeful that the state government will open a dialogue with concerned groups to restore trust in the electoral process and avoid further escalation of the conflict.
