A member of the gang responsible for the murder of Alhaji Sanusi Ango Gyaza, an aide to the Katsina State Governor, and his wife has been arrested by the Katsina Community Watch Corps (CWC) in a joint operation.
The suspect, identified as Musa, was apprehended by the CWC in the Charanchi area after he was implicated in the deadly attack that took place in Gyaza, Kankia Local Government Area. Musa and his accomplices were involved in the August attack that led to the deaths of Alhaji Gyaza, a former Nigeria Union of Teachers (NUT) Chairman, and his wife. The assailants also abducted Gyaza’s other wife during the raid.
Musa was captured and confessed to his role in the attack during an interrogation by the Katsina Community Watch Corps. He identified himself as part of the gang that attacked the Gyaza residence, stating that they were ordered to kidnap Alhaji Gyaza due to his association with the state governor and his perceived wealth. The suspect explained that when Gyaza’s wife attempted to call for help, they shot and killed her. He also described how they tried to abduct Gyaza but killed him when he resisted, while one of the gang members, Torla, took Gyaza’s second wife away on a motorbike.

Musa admitted to carrying an AK-47 during the attack and claimed he was ordered to kill, but refused to do so. He also mentioned that he did not receive any money from the ransom paid after the kidnapping of Gyaza’s wife, despite his involvement.
The suspect confessed that his gang had previously tried to kidnap another individual in Jakiri but was thwarted by security forces. He claimed to have been paid only N20,000 after another kidnapping. In a plea for mercy, he begged for forgiveness, asking for his life to be taken if he was ever involved in another crime.
The Katsina Police Command spokesperson, ASP Abubakar Sadiq Aliyu, has been contacted for further comments but has not yet provided a response.
