The Kogi Central Concerned Stakeholders have dissociated the district from the ongoing dispute between Senate President Godswill Akpabio and Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan.
In a statement released by its convener, AbdulRaheem Adeku, the group expressed disappointment over Senator Akpoti-Uduaghan’s alleged failure to adhere to the Senate’s standing rules. They also warned that continued altercations could lead to a recall process against her.
The statement reads in part: “As a respected arm of government, the National Assembly operates under established rules that must be followed. Unfortunately, what should have been a simple matter of compliance has escalated into an unwarranted personal attack on the Senate President, Godswill Akpabio.”
The group acknowledged the support Senator Akpoti-Uduaghan has received from the Senate leadership in recent months but categorically distanced itself from what it described as her “unconventional and inappropriate conduct.”
“We urge Senator Natasha to uphold the dignity of her office, focus on fulfilling her mandate, and refrain from actions that divert attention from issues of collective interest,” the statement continued.
Emphasizing the district’s values of gratitude, loyalty, and respect, the stakeholders condemned what they termed a smear campaign against Akpabio.
“This behavior does not reflect our values. If these public abuses of senatorial privilege persist, we may have no choice but to initiate the recall process,” the group warned.
Reaffirming their full support for the Senate President and the Red Chamber, they also encouraged the Senate to enforce its disciplinary measures, stressing that appropriate action should be taken to set an example for other serving senators.
