Kogi State Governor Usman Ododo has officially sworn in the newly elected chairmen and vice chairmen of the 21 local government areas in the state, urging them to commit to serving their constituents.
Ismaila Isah, the governor’s special adviser on media and publicity, announced this in a statement on Monday from Lokoja, noting that the swearing-in ceremony took place at the government house.
During the event, Governor Ododo emphasized the importance of maintaining developmental efforts at the grassroots level. He encouraged the new chairmen to initiate projects and programs aimed at enhancing the quality of life for residents.
The governor also highlighted the need for the new local government leaders to prioritize the security of lives and property while aligning with the administration’s key initiatives in health, agriculture, social welfare, and empowerment to uplift their communities.
“There is a necessity for you to operate with transparency and accountability in managing local government affairs. You should view your election as a chance to demonstrate the autonomy of local governance by prioritizing issues that have a direct positive impact on the grassroots,” Ododo stated.
Describing local government as the most vital tier of government, closest to the people, he urged the new council chairmen to engage the community in their activities and include all stakeholders in the decision-making process. The governor reiterated that local governance should not only be visible but also tangibly felt by the people, in line with his administration’s goal of making governance more accessible.
In response, Tosin Olokun, the chairman of Yagba West Local Government Area, speaking on behalf of the other newly sworn-in chairmen, assured their dedication to supporting the state government’s efforts through transformative projects and programs for grassroots development. He also pledged to promote unity among the people, regardless of political affiliations, aligning with Governor Ododo’s vision for a more cohesive and development-focused state.
