The Lagos State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has strongly criticized the suggestion of Seyi Tinubu, son of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, as a potential candidate to succeed Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu in the 2027 elections.
This reaction follows endorsements from groups like the Coalition of Nigerian Youth Leaders and Friends of Seyi Tinubu, who described him as a visionary leader with exceptional qualities.
Lagos PDP spokesperson Hakeem Amode firmly rejected the idea, asserting that governance is not a family inheritance. Speaking to Punch, he stated, “Lagos will not serve him,” emphasizing that the governorship position is not a gift or entitlement.
Amode highlighted the dissatisfaction of many Lagosians with the Tinubu political dynasty, referencing the 2023 presidential election in which President Tinubu faced significant opposition in Lagos. He argued that this sentiment reflects the public’s unwillingness to support any move to position Seyi Tinubu as the state’s next governor.
He concluded by warning against attempts to impose leadership, promising that any such move would be met with strong resistance from the people of Lagos.
