Veteran actress Toyin ‘Lola Idije’ Afolayan has addressed the allegations that her colleague, Biodun ‘Omoborty’ Okeowo, “snatched” her daughter’s boyfriend.
The controversy began after Biodun Okeowo tied the knot with her US-based lover, Adeniyi Olabiyi, in July 2024. Recently, a blog, Gistlover, alleged that Omoborty had taken Mr. Olabiyi from one of Lola Idije’s daughters, claiming that he had previously proposed to her.
The blog further suggested that Omoborty’s marriage to Olabiyi was a calculated move to secure an American Permanent Resident Card. However, Lola Idije refuted these claims in a statement on Instagram, saying she had never met or spoken to Mr. Olabiyi before Omoborty introduced them via a phone call. She also clarified that if her daughter’s boyfriend had been “snatched,” she would not have attended the wedding.
“Good evening everyone, I want to address the story going around since yesterday and to clear the air. The first time I ever spoke to Omoborty’s husband was when she introduced him to me on a phone call,” Lola Idije wrote. She emphasized that neither she nor her daughters knew him before the wedding.
Omoborty also denied the rumors during an Instagram live session, explaining that she has taken Lola Idije as a mother figure since her own mother passed away. She reiterated that her husband had no prior relationship with any of Lola Idije’s daughters.
“My husband doesn’t know any of Lola Idije’s daughters. He spoke to Mummy Lola for the first time through me because I don’t want the narrative suggesting that I snatched her daughter’s boyfriend,” Omoborty said.
She further expressed frustration with the baseless rumors and asked her friend Tosin, who was allegedly involved in spreading the rumors, to come forward with the truth. Omoborty also criticized Gistlover, stating that the blog often posts fabricated stories and urged people not to believe the false information.
Omoborty, a mother of two, has been a prominent figure in the Yoruba film industry, known for her roles in movies like Okanjua and Alapo Aje. Despite the recent allegations, she continues to maintain her innocence and credibility in the face of the rumors.
