The Ogun State Police Command has confirmed the death of a 32-year-old man, Lanre Ogungbe, who was found lifeless in a hotel room in Soyoye, Abeokuta. According to SP Omolola Odutola, the Command’s spokesperson, the tragic discovery occurred at around 2 p.m. on Thursday.
In a statement released on Friday, Odutola explained that an empty bottle of an alcoholic drink known as “Lakoko” and a bottle of pesticide labeled “Sniper” were found beside the deceased in the hotel room, raising suspicions that he may have consumed both substances.
The incident was reported to the police by the owner of Authentic Hotel, located on Soyoye Road. The hotel manager had raised the alarm after noticing that Ogungbe, who had checked in for a brief stay, had not been seen for some time. When the receptionist went to check on him, they discovered his unresponsive body on the bed and immediately notified the hotel management.
Odutola further stated that the scene was secured, and the police were called in promptly. Upon arrival, detectives found Ogungbe’s body with no visible signs of violence. His remains were subsequently taken to General Hospital, Ijaiye, where he was pronounced dead, and the body was deposited in the morgue for a post-mortem examination.
A full investigation into the circumstances surrounding his death is currently underway.
