Manuel Ugarte Transfer: Manchester United and PSG Finalize £50.7m Deal
Manchester United and Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) have reached an agreement for the transfer of midfielder Manuel Ugarte. The deal involves an initial payment of £42.2 million, with the total amount potentially rising to £50.7 million based on performance-related add-ons. Ugarte, who has been a key midfield target for United, has always expressed a strong desire to move to Old Trafford.
As part of the agreement, Ugarte is expected to arrive in the UK on Tuesday to complete his medical examination and finalize personal terms. PSG originally sought the full £51.1 million (€60 million) they paid Sporting Lisbon for Ugarte last summer before bonuses, but both clubs reached a compromise to facilitate the transfer. Manchester United is reportedly satisfied with the terms of the deal.
Ugarte will be joining Manchester United just a year after his transfer to PSG from Sporting Lisbon for a similar fee. Throughout the transfer window, Ugarte’s preference for joining United was clear, and negotiations over personal terms were straightforward.
While both PSG and United explored the possibility of a permanent transfer, discussions also considered a loan deal with a mandatory purchase clause. Manchester United needed to create space in the squad before moving forward with the deal, which was achieved following the departures of Facundo Pellistri to Panathinaikos and Hannibal Mejbri to Burnley.
Ugarte was notably absent from PSG’s squad during their Ligue 1 opener against Le Havre, which PSG won 4-1. Despite starting only 21 games in the 2023/24 season, Ugarte led Ligue 1 in tackles with a total of 98.
McTominay Nears United Exit
Scott McTominay is close to finalizing his departure from Manchester United, with a transfer to Napoli in the works. The two clubs have agreed on a £25.4 million (€30 million) deal, and personal terms have been settled in principle.
Once the final exit terms are completed, McTominay is expected to travel to Italy for a medical. Despite Manchester United’s reluctance to lose the midfielder, McTominay is eager for regular first-team play, and his transfer would provide a significant financial benefit to the club.
