At least 28 people, including seven children and a woman, were killed in Israeli airstrikes on Gaza overnight, according to Palestinian health officials. The strikes occurred hours after the U.N. General Assembly passed a resolution calling for an immediate ceasefire in the region.
One airstrike targeted a home in the densely populated Nuseirat refugee camp, flattening the structure. Casualties from this attack were taken to the Al-Aqsa Martyrs Hospital in nearby Deir al-Balah.
Two additional strikes reportedly killed 15 men involved in local aid committee efforts. These committees, organized by displaced Palestinians in collaboration with the Hamas-run Interior Ministry, were formed to facilitate aid distribution amid the ongoing conflict.
The U.N. General Assembly’s Wednesday resolution, which also expressed support for the U.N. agency for Palestinian refugees, reflects international concern but is not legally binding.
The Gaza conflict, which began on October 7, 2023, when Hamas militants launched attacks on southern Israel, has resulted in over 1,200 Israeli deaths and the abduction of around 250 people. Approximately 100 hostages remain in Gaza, with reports suggesting that at least a third may have died.
The ongoing Israeli military campaign has led to over 44,800 Palestinian deaths in Gaza, according to the Gaza Health Ministry. More than half of these casualties are reported to be women and children. Israel asserts that over 17,000 of those killed were militants, though no evidence has been provided to support this claim.
